Many boys who come into our home struggle with work ethic. One of the first ways we begin developing that ethic is through an assortment of daily chores, like washing the dishes and sweeping the patio. Soon, we begin to see many of the boys making strides toward becoming hard workers. We teach them that the goal is not just to get a chore done, but to finish it with excellence. We want each of them to be able to look back on their work and be proud of what they accomplished.
There are lots of long-term benefits to building these skills. One of them is the eventual opportunity to seek employment—often their very first job. Over the years, we have seen our boys show that they can handle responsibility and apply themselves in a true work environment. This leads to tests they have not faced yet, along with opportunities to grow and mature in areas that are desperately needed in today’s world. We are living in a time when a strong work ethic is likely to put a boy head and shoulders above the norm.
We want to set each of our boys up for success while they are with us and long afterward. Opportunities like these give them real-world chances to apply what they have learned and prepare for a fruitful future.
We are immensely proud of these young men and can’t wait to see what God has in store for each of them.
