Shane Holcomb is the director of Youth-Reach Costa Rica, but many years ago, he served as a counselor here at Youth-Reach Houston. I remember the day he told me that he had met a young woman online, and I also remember my skepticism. That skepticism grew when he told me she lived in Colombia.
Their internet relationship grew to the point where one day his online girlfriend came to Houston, and more specifically, to Youth-Reach Houston. This is where we all met Abigail. This woman’s testimony and family heritage were beautiful, and we all quickly drew her into our community. They got married and moved to the Nashville area, yet there was something in all of us that knew we would one day serve together again.
We stayed in touch, and several years ago, after a season of diligent prayer and seeking counsel, Youth-Reach Costa Rica was founded and is led today by Shane and Abby Holcomb.
Abby is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and her credentials reflect only the official portion of her gifts. She is a wise and discerning woman as well, providing Youth-Reach residents with both professional-level counseling and the compassionate strength of a firm momma. This has brought new depth to the care and development of our kids and provided insight into the factors that have damaged them. Abby is a very confidential therapist, but she helps our staff understand how best to lead the kids entrusted to our care.
It is a common belief that when a child encounters a severe trauma, their emotional development often hits a curb. They continue to grow and mature physically, but until the trauma is revealed and confronted, their lives will be hampered by the pain of their wounds. Abby has been a tremendous vessel of the Holy Spirit’s healing in the lives of our kids. We are grateful and excited to watch the way Abby listens and ministers to the deep pain our boys carry.
Thank you for supporting our work. You are helping transform damaged hearts into overcomers.
