The boys undertook an important part of beekeeping by working together to plant a group of plants known for their strong pollination, and that are also proven to attract bees. We are working to expand our beekeeping program to include multiple hives, and that involves much more than just setting a man-made hive in the yard and hoping. It means that you must acquire a queen for each hive. In the art and science of keeping bees: so goes the queen, so goes the colony.
We shared with you last month that we were officially entering the beekeeping business after finding a hive of some of the most docile bees right here on our campus. We are now gearing up to be able to produce a steady supply of honey. Several of the boys have already been stung as they (bravely or foolishly) try to handle the bees without using the available beekeeper suit.
We have now mandated that wisdom be employed and the suits be worn.
