It recently hit me … All I have done is pour the slab.
Youth-Reach is soon to turn 40 years old, and it seems like only a few years ago that I took that first 17-year-old into my home. I had no clue what I was doing, and I had no idea what the Lord had in store for me. Now, we are planning a wonderful weekend with a golf tournament, and an evening of worship to recognize the One who started all of this, the One who has sustained all of this, and the One who will take this ministry into the next generation.
When one walks into a building, whether it is a humble abode or a towering skyscraper, few stop to comment on the foundation. It is only when the foundation is flawed, or when there are cracks in the slab that anyone takes notice. Today, when I look at what has been accomplished in these 40 years, and what is to come, it is clear to see that what has been done is truly foundational. When I view the team the Lord has assembled to take Youth-Reach into the next 40 years, I am impressed. As I spend time with David Williams, who in just a few years will assume my role, I am secure that he will lead Youth-Reach much further and much higher than I could imagine. He is easily twice the leader that I am, and he holds the original vision of Youth-Reach, as this is not my vision, it is a vision given to me by God and now given to David.
So now my quest is to make sure that the foundation that I have established is not cracked by a poor transition. My goal is to finish well, to support the boards of our campuses, and to do all I can to launch this team towards fruitfulness and success. After all, my greatest joy will be to see kids who have no hope continue to find a fresh chance at a new life through Youth-Reach for many, many years to come. So I hope that you will make plans to join us in November to celebrate all the Lord has done for us and all we know He will do in the years to come. See you soon.
