It was almost 18 years ago that Jimmy Garcia first began commuting from Waco, Texas to begin serving at Youth-Reach Houston. Over the ensuing years Jimmy has served as a counselor, as our Operations Coordinator, and for the last six years, as our Director.
To be the Director of our Houston campus comes with a lot of weight, pressure and demands. Juggling the challenges that come with troubled kids, desperate parents, staffing issues, and regulatory requirements can certainly be overwhelming, yet Jimmy has handled all of this and more. In this time, Jimmy has been the steady hand on the wheel and a strong influence on hundreds of boys.
On March 1st, Jimmy will be stepping down as Director and will serve Youth-Reach in a part-time role overseeing our regulatory compliance. This is a critical position here, but it will come with much less pressure and fewer hours.
Xavier Bright, who first came to serve at Youth-Reach in 2015, has served as a counselor, as our Operations Coordinator, and has been selected by our leadership and confirmed by our Board of Directors as the next Director of the Youth-Reach campus here in Houston. Xavier is a committed husband, father, and follower of Christ with strong leadership skills and a strong working knowledge of the procedures here at Youth-Reach. He has worked under leadership and has been, and continues to be, very teachable.
All of us here are very excited about this new season. We are deeply grateful for the incredible contribution that Jimmy has made, and we are glad that he will remain a part of our staff family. Please keep him in your prayers as he makes this transition, and pray for Xavier as he takes on this new role.
