Breaking for Spring 2023 By Jarod Dyess, Education Coordinator One of the things we focus on for boys in our ministry is developing positive relationships. Boys at Youth-Reach come from situations where they've made [...]
When you presume upon the enemy’s plans to destroy young lives, you can expect trials and attacks. If you are not facing trials, you have somehow become ineffective and that should bring its own set of concerns.
Currently we have sixteen boys in our program here at Youth-Reach with six or seven guys vying for the two open spots. The problem is, there are no open spots….yet.
On May 14, many of the boys of Youth-Reach Houston once again participated in the Northshore Rotary Crawfish Boil & Catfish Fry, helping with the catfish breading process. It is also likely that they ate their weight in catfish and crawfish.
The boys undertook an important part of beekeeping by working together to plant a group of plants known for their strong pollination, and that are also proven to attract bees. We are working to expand our beekeeping program to include multiple hives, and that involves much more than just setting a man-made hive in the yard and hoping. It means that you must acquire a queen for each hive.
The Spirit of the living God is not asleep, and He is certainly not distracted by the virus that has derailed our regular schedules. He is aware, active and focused on the needs of each of us. However, at least in our view, His greatest attention is still on reaching the one sheep that is lost.
What do you do when you have a bunch of boys who are full of testosterone and ego while you are in the middle of a stay-at-home order? Well, you better keep them busy and it is best if you can somehow help them to exhaust all the pent-up energy that will otherwise be employed for nefarious purposes.
Since the first week of the stay-at-home order, we have been coming together on Sundays for a time of worship as a community here at Youth-Reach Houston. If the weather is nice, we assemble at the pavilion by the pond, if it is raining, we come together at a staff home on campus.
